FAQ 1: How does it work?

1. Create
Easy start: The only thing you need to start is to request a record and share your home address. We will create it for you. Ensure it get's stored permanently. And guarantee that nobody will change your history.
Full ownership: You have total ownership of the record. You determine who get's access.2. Build
Public info: The digital record can be provided with publicly available information when choosing the premium version.
Your experiences: The real colour needs to provided by you, the owner or habitant:
- Events: What has happened in and around the home? Do you have historic pictures, drawings or maps?
- Habitants: Who have lived here before you? How did they live their lives?
- Technical details: Where are the wires? The pipes? The isolation? How old is it? How much energy, water does the place use? Etc.

Transferable: The ownership of the record is transferable. To a future owner. To your kids. To your neighbours or others that are interested.
History secured: New owners will be able to add their views and experiences of the home. But they won't be able to change the history logged before them.
You determine: When, which parts of the record will be transferred. You can make it part of the sell of the property. Commercialize it separately. Or just gift it to the next custodian.

FAQ 2: How much will this record be worth?

It is hard to predict. It will depend on a couple of factors:1. Type of information: Which information is added to the record? Just technical or also stories about former inhabitants and stories that happened in and around the house? Is a lot of details known? Does it have trustworthy sources?
2. History of the home: What is the story of the home? Is it of historic importance? Were there any famous inhabitants or neighbours? Did any important events happen at or close to the home? These kind of things will impact the value of the record.
3. Value to the buyer: What is it that the future owner is willing to pay for this record? Are they mainly interested in the technical details? Or just in the historical context? Is the record also valuable to neighbors or even a local newssource? Perhaps just in parts?All in all we have had feedback that the value is easily into a couple of 100 of Euro's. Based on the above mentioned benefits.Besides that the record might also be positively impact a selling price of a home. Which means a value of a couple of thousand Euro's.

FAQ 3: Do I really have to pay only ONCE for your services into eternity?

Yes, we believe monthly or annual fees are not the way to go for storing historical relevant data. We have therefore chosen for decentralized permaweb storage solutions that enable us to provide the services with just a one time fee.We might offer additional services to help you find more historical information about your home. Or you might reach the limits of your storage capacity. These are now set with the expectation you will not require more. Only if you consider uploading video files these will probably will not be sufficient. See our packages for current storage volume limitations.

FAQ 4: Do I have to be the owner to make a digitale record of my home?

No, you do not have to. Obviously a owner or an inhabitant of a home will be able to add more value to a digital record of a home. The person that creates or adds information to the record impacts the value of the record. But anyone can create a digital record of a home. Multiple records can exist next to each other.

FAQ 5: How do you ensure permanency, transferability and immutability?

Homestory uses the newest technologies on blockchain basis. By doing we so can ensure a couple of different features:1. Security: the information is only accesible by the owner of the digital record. This is being ensured through the cryptographic features of the blockchain and private key encryption.
2. Permanent* storage: by using a technology that leverages multiple servers spread around the globe and a endowment for paying the storage indefinitely.
3. Transferable: by coupling the access to the record to an non fungible token (NFT) we make it transferable. We will also offer options to fractionalize access and ownership of the record.
4. Immutable: information stored by an owners can not be removed or changed. A new owner will be able to add to the history, but wont be able to rewrite parts of it.We work with so called custodial as well as non-custodial wallets. With the custodial wallet (default for now) Homestory will keep the private key to get access and rights over the record.With the non-custodial options Homestory has no access to your private key. That means you are able to control the record independent of Homestory. So even when Homestory stops it services you will remain able to continue to view, write and transfer the record. But in case of loss of the private key Homestory will not be able to restore the access or record data for you.If you want to learn more about permanent storage please check here.* At this moment the life expectancy is set at a minimum of 200 years. But the technology is structured in a way that this is likely to extend forever.

FAQ 6: Is my data secure and private?

Yes. Private key encryption and encrypted content ensures your data is being kept secure and private. Furthermore our team is committed to strong security and privacy guidelines.

FAQ 7: What is the role of Homestory and can they see my data?

Homestory facilitates you to make it easier to store the record of your home permanently and make it transferable. We provide guidance in the form of our tools, tips, tricks and sources overview which makes it easy for you to create the story of your home.We do not provide detailed information about your home. With exception for the customers choosing our PREMIUM services.We do not store your record ourselves. We use external permaweb storage solutions that decentralizes the storage in a private, encrypted way.

FAQ 8: I am a Web3 native and don't want a custodial solution.

Awesome. We believe everyone should have the option to chose for a full self sovereignty. We are working hard to provide this in the future.
